Canada 150 and Vimy 100

Canada 150 and Vimy 100

On Sunday June 25th, with threatening stormy weather and rain off and on, the RCL Fenelon Falls Branch 238 was at the Cenotaph to celebrate Canada 150 and the 100th anniversary of the Victory of Canadian Forces at Vimy Ridge during WW1.

The Colour Party, led by Sgt.-at-Arms Gary Rutherford, marched on the colours to the Cenotaph.  The Chaplain Major Roy Randell read from the Psalms and had prayers of thanksgiving for Divine mercies on our Country in war and peace.   Branch President Wes Arscott CD placed a wreath of Remembrance and addressed the gathering of the importance of the Vimy victory, which to many, first defined us as a Nation. The Hymns O God Our Help in Ages Past and Onward Christian Soldiers were sung.  O Canada and the Royal Anthem were also sung and accompanied by The Salvation Army Band under the Leadership of Sgt. Major Randy Switzer who also played the Last Post and Rouse.

During a break from the rain, our 1st Vice President, Jackie Walter, conducted the closing ceremony. Thanks to all who braved the blustery weather. Two brave souls sat through it all, while many watched from their vehicles. Thank you also to Comrade Arlene Coleman for planning for the event.
