We had a very successful and fun day at our first Legion Car Rally. 10 cars with 30 people participated. Although it was a bit chilly and windy, we had a beautiful sunny day – unfortunately, we were a bit early to take in the full fall colours. Most made it back within a reasonable time – one car went a bit off course, but they came back laughing nonetheless. After everyone returned, we had a great meal of pulled-pork on a bun, complemented with salads, and followed by two chocolate and white ‘rally’ cakes. Judging by the chatter and laughter around the tables, it appeared that everyone had a great time.
I would like to thank everyone for participating; Ken and Sheila for organizing the event, buying and preparing the food; and my wife Lois, who patiently drove the route about 8 times with me to ensure the instructions were accurate. And, special thanks to the teams that bribed the judges!
I would especially like to acknowledge and thank both the 1st and 2nd place winners for donating their prize winnings (total of $150) to the Candlelight Vigil campaign, to buy candles for those who are less fortunate.
