The Annual Royal Canadian Legion Public Speaking competition was held Sunday March 4th at Branch 238 in Fenelon Falls. There was much excitement as some 85 people came out to the event. There were two schools represented in Langton Public School and Fenelon Township School in Cameron.
We had 8 participants and the subjects were very interesting and presented very well.
Legion President Arlene Colman Legion and Legion Youth Education Rep. Major Roy Randell welcomed everyone to the event and mentioned the participants were all winners in getting this far. It was great that Teachers and Parents encouraged the youth and attended the event.
First place in the grades 4-6 category went to Lyla Verlint-Slykhuis of Langton Public School who spoke on, Dog Behaviour. First in the grades 7-9 category was Aiden Marr of Fenelon Township School who spoke on, How Trees Communicate. Both students go on to the Zone level competition at the Royal Canadian Legion in Coboconk on March 25th. We wish them every success.
A delicious lunch was provided for one and all as the judges deliberated and the names were being printed onto certificates. The Legion kitchen was staffed by Marlene Haines –Hampton, Val Elliot and Pat Fader in providing refreshments.
The Judges for the event were Rob Jardine and Joan Whyte Elliot and Major Charlene Randell. The Scrutineers were Ian Colman and Johanna Sutton Roy. Time Keepers: Fern Bellwood and Jim Tesoriere. Room Set-up, Take down and Runner: John Mangan. Registration: Arlene Colman.
